What if you could stop feeling tight all the time without ever doing another hip flexor stretch or figure-4 stretch again.

Sounds impossible, right?

Let me explain…

It’s so easy to just assume you are tight because well, that’s what your body is telling you, why would it lie? But the body is so much more complicated than that, especially the hips.

And hey, I get it – I used to feel tight all the time when I was a young ballet dancer. Since I felt tight, I assumed that meant my muscles were tight. Considering I could relax and read a book in an oversplit should have been a sign that even though I felt like I needed to stretch constantly, it wasn’t the answer to my problems.

Looking back at the situation now, I know exactly what my body was missing.

Strength & Balance

Not only strength of my hip flexors, but also my entire core so my hips and spine had support.

But, here’s the truth

That is what I work on with my clients. I help them solve the puzzle that is their body so that they no longer feel limited in their movement.

There’s a correct order to build a structurally sound house, and the body is no different.

Even though we all want quick fixes, the quick fixes never last.

The good news is, you don’t need to always stretch anymore to get relief.

IF YOU’RE FEELING TIGHT, TRY THESE SIMPLE STEPS:

  1. Focus on breathing. It will promote better muscle relaxation and engagement. The diaphragm in our ribs works in tandem with our pelvic floor. It is one of the most important relationships in the body!
  2. Develop your body awareness and hip stability. Start simple. Challenge the body by working unilaterally. This will also build core strength by working to resist rotation. One of my favorite exercises to start with is the ‘Knee Opener’. Lay on your back with your knees bent. Let one knee open to the side, only going as far as you can without letting the hips move. It’s way harder than you think! Start with about 4 each side, and then work up to alternating.

  3. Add in more hip strengthening exercises. Focus on working the hips 3-dimensionally. So many only focus on Glute strength and forget about the hip flexors, inner thighs & deep hip rotators.
